On July 20, 2012, Riggan Law Firm, LLC, a St. Louis employment law firm, working in connection with Kuhlmann LLC, obtained a jury verdict for its client in a case involving claims of sexual harassment and retaliation. The Plaintiff, Tracey Evans, worked for the Defendant, Anthony's Maintenance, LLC (which does business under the nameACC Services) as a janitor/cleaner. Anthony's/ACC is a St. Louis-based commercial cleaning company.
In the lawsuit, which was filed in August 2011 in the Circuit Court for the City of St. Louis, Missouri, Ms. Evans alleged that she was sexually harassed by her supervisor, Gary Anderson, and that the company terminated her employment for complaining about the harassment. Ms. Evans' was fired by the company in January 2010, on the same day that she made a complaint of sexual harassment. Anderson continued to be an employee of the company as of the time of the trial.
After a trial lasting nearly two weeks, the jury returned a verdict for the Plaintiff, Ms. Evans, on her claims of sexual harassment and retaliation and found that the Defendant was liable for punitive damages, due to the reckless nature of its conduct. The jury awarded a total of $100,000 in damages, consisting of $50,000 in compensatory damages and $50,000 in punitive damages. To read a copy of the jury's verdicts, click here.
